Sankaracarya's Vivekachudamani 458
na tasya mithyārthasamarthanecchā
na saṃgrahastajjagato'pi dṛṣṭaḥ |
tatrānuvṛttiryadi cenmṛṣārthe
na nidrayā mukta itīṣyate dhruvam ||
(Sankaracarya's Vivekachudamani 458)
He does not wish to prove the unreal objects to be real, nor is he seen to maintain the dream-world. If he still clings to the unreal objects, he is really not yet awoken from sleep.
There is a proverb saying that 'You Can’t Wake a Person Who Is Pretending to Be Asleep' – Navajo Proverb. A pretender to be a devotee of the Lord or a guru cannot understand that the world is unreal, they are really becoming a devotee or guru for their material benefits. A true devotee of the Lord will not hanker for unreal material benefits or he don't need to maintain himself in the unreal dreamy world. Such a great devotee never likes to get name and fame. Thus, all of us should take spiritual knowledge from a self-realized person.
