Tirupathi Sri Venketeswara Story and Mahatyam Part 3

Narada asks: "who will bear the Yagna effect?"

From satya loka, Narada chanting the name of Hari, reached the banks of the river Ganges. There sages like Kasyapa and others were performing a grand 'Yagna' for universal good. Narada went there. The sages received him respectfully. They informed him of the yagna.

Narada appreciated their efforts. Yet, he had a doubt. He asked, "who will bear the yagna effect? who, among the Trimurthis you consider suitable?.

That was a pertinent question. But the sages could not readily answer. They looked at each other. They could not come to an understanding. There was utter confusion. The sages were divided on this issue. They formed into groups.

Devotees of Siva said, it should go to Maheswara. Vashnavaites said Narayana is the proper person to receive it, while others preferred Brahma, the creator. Each one argued in favour of his favorite. It became more a battle field than a yagna yard.

Narada tried at a compromise. He said: "you have to select the fittest person by test. It is not easy to put the Trimurthis to test. It is something like playing with fire. I consider that Brighu, the Maharshi, who secured super super human powers by his great penance, is the fittest person for conducting the test. You may entrust this job to him." Everybody rejoiced over this suggestion. In the circumstances Brighu was left with no other option but to accept.

In selecting Brighu for the job, Narada had this thing in mind-Bhrighu by his super human powers was very haughty and Narada wanted to teach him a lesson.

Having succeeded in his plan, Narada took leave of the sages and left the place cheerfully. Brighu set on his job
