Tirupathi Sri Venketeswara Story and Mahatyam Part 17

Akasa Raju performs Putrakamesti Yajna

On one auspicious day, Akasa Raju invited his Kula Guru, Suka Maharishi. He devotedly washed the guru's feet and prayed him to advise what he should do to beget children.

Suka Maharishi said, "Long long ago king Janaka performed Putrakamesti Yajna and got Janaki as his daughter. You may also do the same. God will bless you."

Aksa Raju was very much pleased at Maharishi's suggestion. He collected all the materials necessary for the yajna. On an auspicious day he invited Btahmins and after puja himself started ploughing the field, Where yajna was to be performed, with his golden plough. While ploughing something struck the plough and it did not move. So, the mud was dug out. They found a box embedded in the soil. When the box was taken out and opened, to their surprise they found a beautiful female child in the midst of a thousand petaled lotus flower. At that time there was a bright lightning in the sky and a voice from heaven heard. It said "Akasa Raju you are fortunate. As a result of the Punya you acquired in your last birth, you got this child. On account of her, your race will benefit."

On hearing those words from heaven Suka Maharishi, Brahmins Akasa Raju, Dharani Devi and all others present were happy. Akasa Raju took the child in his arms, got the blessings of the Maharishi and others, left the yajna yard and reached his palace. Since, the child was born in a Padma(lotus flower) she was named Padmavati, as per the Suka Maharishi's suggestion. They reared the child with Love and affection.

To their good fortunate and on account the favorable placement of the stars at the time of Padmavathi's birth, Dharani Devi soon became pregnant and gave birth to a boy on an auspicious day. He was named Vasudamudu. The king and the queen brought him up with loving care.
