Sankaracarya's Vivekachudamani 559
देहस्य मोक्षो नो मोक्षो न दण्डस्य कमण्डलोः ।
अविद्याहृदयग्रन्थिमोक्षो मोक्षो यतस्ततः ॥
dehasya mokṣo no mokṣo na daṇḍasya kamaṇḍaloḥ |
avidyāhṛdayagranthimokṣo mokṣo yatastataḥ ||
(Sankaracarya's Vivekachudamani 559)
For, giving up the body or the staff or the water bag is not liberation; true liberation is the sundering of the heart's knots formed by ignorance.
Many of us are thinking when our beloved people pass away they attain liberation. In this sloka Sankaracarya specifically saying that giving up one's body or skinned bag (which simply contains a lump of matter composed of blood, stool, urine, bones, pus, and other dirty compositions) are not liberation. By using our rare birth which given by the Lord to realize the science of self-realization and release the knots of ignorance from our hearts. Such releasing will make us understand the Supreme Lord and our eternal position, in this world and after the world. One has to come to such a position to understand the meaning of this life.
