Sri Saptha Kannikas

In all Hindu scripts and Devi Mahaatmiyam, one will note that Saptha Kannikas are mentioned as Parivaara Devataas of AadhiParaaShakti. Among the millions of Parivaara Devataas, these Seven Virgin Mothers carry a special place in AadhiParaaShakti as depicted in Sri Yantra (Sri Chakra). The seven nodes in the middle line of the First Enclosure (Prathama Aavaranaa) are occupied by the Saptha Kannikas, namely Brahmi, Maheshwari, Kowmaari, Vaishnavi, Vaaraahi, Indraani, and Chamundi. The eighth node is occupied by Mahalakshmi. Traditionally, all the Hindu Temples in villages and rural areas of India, these Seven Virgin Mothers are consecrated as seven stones and worshipped as formless. These shrines are often called “Kanni Kovil” meaning “Virgin Temples”.

Interesting enough is the most mysterious (at least to early and present-day Christians) “Revelation of St. John” in The Holy Bible, which significantly centers around the “Seven Angels” demonstrating how Preaching of Lord Jesus Christ portrayed the Oneness or Single Concept of Supreme Universal Energy that Creates, Sustains and Assimilates all forms and formless. “The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.” - The Revelation 1:20, Holy Bible

In this paragraph the seven angels refer to Seven Virgin Mothers and the seven churches to the Seven Chakras in our body, meaning the guardian angels of the seven energy centers of the human body. Remember that AadhiParaaShakti is All-Pervading Origin Energy, which is the ONLY Creative Force that is SOLELY responsible for all creations and their functioning. The Seven Chakras (which are discussed in further detail in the “Body is Temple” page of this site) are Centers in our body where seven different manifestations of One Energy is concentrated each ruled and guarded by a unique feminine (Motherly – Representing Creative Energy) aspect of AadhiParaaShakti. They are Virgins as they are not accompanied by masculine aspects.
