SASTRAS

In order, therefore, to know what may be done and what may not be done, we must be guided by the pronouncements of the Vedas which state prescriptions Vidhis and prohibitions Nishedas. Sri Krishna said in the Gita: "He who, having cast aside the injunctions of the sastras acts according to his own sweet will attains not perfection, or happiness or the highest goal". Therefore, says Sri Krishna, "Let the shastra be our authority in determining what ought to be done and what ought not to be done. Knowing what has been prescribed in the shastra, you should perform your action here".
