Varaha Temple
Varaha Temple at Khajuraho enshrines a colossal monolithic image of Varaha, the boar incarnation of Lord Vishnu. This temple depicts Varaha as a purely animal form. The temple is located in the Western Group of Temple Complex Khajuraho Group of Monuments, a World Heritage Site inscribed by UNESCO in 1986 in Khajuraho.
Built around 900-925 AD. It is built on a lofty plinth, a modest, oblong pavilion with roofs having pyramid shapes resting on 14 plain pillars. It has a deity of VARAHA, the incarnation of Vishnu. This statue is approximately 9 feet long and 6 feet in height, carved from a single stone. There are 672 carved statues of Vedic gods and goddesses which represent 36 cr of devis and devatas.
The serpent Sheshnag is a pedestal. It also has preserved feet of the broken figures of Goddess Earth (Prithvi). The roof ceiling has a lotus design and all is built with sandstone.
